SOLD 1930s African American Quilt

1930s African American Quilt
Fresh from an Atlanta collection, this eye-catching quilt features a 20-patch house top variation on a strong background of ochre and indigo. The quilter made use of a variety of feed sack material, patterned dress fabric, and solid cottons, and chose a plain feed sack backing. This well-made example is hand-pieced and quilted — not with thread, but with lightweight string, adding an extra measure of textural interest. Both the quilt top and backing/binding are in excellent condition, with one smallish blue smudge on the front, and no rips, holes or other signs of wear. 80″L X 67″W. 1930s-’40s.
