Shane Campbell’s Black “Lady Liberty”
Self-taught master carver Shane Campbell’s 30-inch high “Lady Liberty” is a striking monument to art, country and family history. Constructed of carved and painted wood with a gilded metal torch and crown, Liberty stands atop a painted base that Campbell has covered with patriotic affirmations (“Old Glory Forever May She Wave”) and the partisan (though humorous) leanings of his Republican and Democratic grandfathers. Truly an inspired work that suggests there is room for everyone at Liberty’s feet. Signed and dated 2006.
