Small Toy Elephant Made of Early Denim

This nifty little toy elephant is hand made from an early piece of authentic denim fabric: note the interwoven white and indigo threads. It’s treadle sewn, hard stuffed with rags, with thickly embroidered black eyes and a turned-down trunk. I especially love the old red ribbon bow around its neck. I suspect that a child had a hand in making this toy, given the roughness of the hand-stitching on the applied ears and side where it was stitched closed after being stuffed. Very good original condition with one tiny hole as the photos show. Dimensions are 9-1/2” L X 6” T X 3-/1/2 W. From a private collection. Early 1900s.
