Old Bolivian Souvenir Doll

The third of three newly acquired dolls is a bit of a departure from my usual offerings. But she came with this interesting collection, and I couldn’t resist the hat with its hearts and flowers; the braids of human hair; and the embroidered ribbon trim on her orange wool underskirt.

Her head is a papier mache-like material, with hand painted features, and her body is made of fabric tightly stuffed with rags. She’s dressed in traditional clothing that’s machine and hand-sewn and stitched on.

And, in keeping with the role of the Alpaca wool industry un Bolivia, she carries a sample of soft wool in her hands.
