Remember your grandmother’s ”Victorian” rocking chair with its heavy, dark upholstery and horse-hair stuffing?
Using nothing more than bent wire and rusty bottle caps, the maker of this miniature version has perfectly captures both the look and styling of that old dinosaur. Form — and condition — is what this folky, well crafted piece is all about.
I love the cemetery of the curved arms, rounded back and bottle cap slats. But the medallion-shaped piece at the center is the purple icing on the cake. The bottle caps used for the rocker are packed so tightly that it’s impossible to determine their brands. But, again, it’s the workmanship that matters.
The miniature rocker is 11-1/2” t x 10” l x 7” w. Origin and date unknown.
