Large Articulated Man
Unlike articulated limberjacks that have a folksy or comical look, this example depicts a handsome broad-shouldered man with a strong profile. Note the nicely carved boots and well-define hands and fingers. This piece is European, and I believe it’s carved from European walnut. As the photos show, there is some wear to the wood surface, including a small gash to the front of the chest. Jointed at the shoulders, hips, ankles and knees, the 15”-tall figure measures 4-3/4” across the shoulders, with a chest that’s 2” deep at the widest point. 1920s-1940s.
