I love the rustic appeal of this sturdy, well-formed tramp art box. Each layer is a ¾”-thick plank of what looks like ponderosa pine. (Note the red-ish brown color and grain pattern of the unfinished wood). Each rectangular layer is chip carved and incises on all sides in a way that produces an interesting starburst effect. Constructed with a hinged lift-up top, the box is finished with a natural stain that gives it a rich golden hue. Dimensions are 15-1/2” l X 10’1/2” w X 9-1/2” h. As for origin, I was told this is this is an example of 1930s WPA workmanship from New Mexico.
