SOLD 18th c. Document Box with Rose Head Nails

I love this early document box for its simple, honest form: the dove gray paint over salmon red; the hand chamfered underside of the lid; the unusual pegged hinges; and rose head nail construction — all of which make it a very appealing example of early Americana.

The box is 20” w X 12” d X 8” h. As the photos show, the condition is very good with a few missing nails and some paint loss as can be expected in a piece this early. C. 1780-1820. From a long-time collector.
