No doubt the work of a very enterprising dad, this child-size ride-on flatbed truck is designed to hold several small children sitting caterpillar-style who power the vehicle with their feet.
As the photos show, the truck consists of two parts: a vintage square-front, two-door cab with a short flatbed and a separate trailer that attaches to the bed with a sturdy metal pin. Constructed of cut steel with spring-hinged doors on the cab and six wheels in all, this unique toy is 64-1/2” long and retains its original red painted.
What I love about the truck is that, in addition to its original function as a child’s toy, the streamlined architectural makes it a great multi-purpose shelf when mounted on a wall (as seen in the attached show photo). If you collect vintage trucks, whatever the scale, or you enjoy re-purposing vintage finds, this curious object may be for you. C. 1950s. Maker unknown.
