SOLD 1930s Hand-Made Black Cloth Baby Doll

1930’s Hand-Made Black Cloth Baby Doll

With just a few deft touches, the maker of this unusual cloth doll has created a charming likeness of a real baby. Note the chubby feet with stitching defining the toes; the long stitched fingers; and the large round head with its round needle-stitched nose. Made of black stockinette stuffed with heavy cotton and rags and joined at the hips, the doll has hair of mohair, embroidered eyes with shoe button pupils, and red stitching to define the mouth. The doll’s only clothing is an old pink and white cotton dress tightly gathered at the neck. The doll itself is 22 inches tall with a head that’s 14-1/4 inches in circumference. Very good condition.
