Ohio Hill Climber Locomotive, c.1910

A nice early example of a Hill Climber locomotive, this engine and coal car are made of sheet steel and retain most of their original red and gold painted surface. The sides of the tender bear an embossed oval with “Hill Climber” in script, followed by “REG.” I love the fact the the original die-cut heads of the engineer and fireman are still attached to the cab windows. By no means perfect, the toy exhibits expected play wear for its age; the engine has only four wheels; and the tongue connecting the tender and engine may be a replacement. But, at 28 inches long, with the original gold paint and trim, the train has great presence and will be a charming addition to any collection.
