Fine Chip Carved Sewing Box
Crisply carved by someone with excellent skills, this tramp art sewing box sits on four small feet and measures 12″L X 9″D X 9″H. The rather intricate design consists of pyramids and rectangles that are six and seven layers deep, some topped with early tacks. The “hidden” drawer at the bottom reveals a striking cigar box graphic — the Lowenclub lion, which clearly inspired the maker in more ways than one: the blue-black paint on the box is the same rich hue as the graphic. The lift-up top has newer hinges, and the beige velvet lining and pin cushion top also appear to be replacements. A well-made piece in excellent condition.
